HIV Counseling Conference -2009

The Ministry of Health – Uganda together with the Strengthening HIV Counseling project (SCOT) held a three – day counseling conference under the theme HIV Counseling: Networking in Response to Emerging Issues.  

It was held at Hotel Africana from 6th – 8th May 2009 and chaired by Dr. Sam Okware together with Dr. Zainab Akol (MOH) and Mr. Robert Ochai (TASO) as co-chairs.  

Over 350 delegates attended with over 20 papers presented on various topics such as new approaches in HIV Counseling and Testing such as the moonlight HCT and boat to boat HCT.  

The conference provided fora for the HIV counselors to meet with counselors under the Uganda Counseling Association. This was intended for both groups to jointly come up with a way through which the counseling profession can be recognized in Uganda.

 

 
Kiboga - Kibaale project

Kibaale and Kiboga are typical examples of districts that have high HIV prevalence yet with low capacity to respond to issues around HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services. It is for this reason that the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) in partnership with leading HIV agencies in Uganda set up a project to aid Kibaale and Kiboga districts build their capacity to tackle these through a project called the Kibaale—Kiboga project (KKP).
