The Ministry of Health – Uganda together with the Strengthening HIV Counseling project (SCOT) held a three – day counseling conference under the theme HIV Counseling: Networking in Response to Emerging Issues.  

It was held at Hotel Africana from 6^th – 8^th May 2009 and chaired by Dr. Sam Okware together with Dr. Zainab Akol (MOH) and Mr. Robert Ochai (TASO) as co-chairs.  

Over 350 delegates attended with over 20 papers presented on various topics such as new approaches in HIV Counseling and Testing such as the moonlight HCT and boat to boat HCT.  

The conference provided fora for the HIV counselors to meet with counselors under the Uganda Counseling Association. This was intended for both groups to jointly come up with a way through which the counseling profession can be recognized in Uganda.
